"Combine the Trini spirit, with the years of struggle
and frustration with the instrument, and the energy is
unpredictable."
There is a unique formula when one combines the
Trini spirit and the sound of the pan, to produce an
energy that knows no bounds and yet still has very much
to be discovered by the rest of the world. Both have
been forged through fire & passion, struggle and
frustration, yet it is through this process that our
latent talent & free spirited nature comes alive and our
creativity flows. One only sees or hears the end result,
but sometime fails to recognize what we really have, a
true reflection of our soul captured with an instrument
invented right here in Trinidad.
This was the first song in a musical relationship of 7
consecutive years with
Denyse Plummer, who came to my house, to hear me sing the song for her
with my guitar. She did not know me at the time, but
she was very professional and got into the song by
singing along. I knew then, that this would be a good
song for the pan world.
I am grateful to Errol Peru,
Kitchener’s manager, for supporting me on my Passion for
Pan album, and he was one of the first people who had
heard the raw melody of the song. His reaction was
great, and I thought if there was anyone who would be
accustomed to hearing good melodies, then that person
must be Errol.
I was on my way to live and work in Norway in the year
2000, but the song was composed and written that year
for release in 2001, with Boogsie and Pelham Goddard
arranging the production of the recording.
Then something happened. The music was being played in
Panorama on the Grand Savannah Stage, New York and
Montreal.
