  11 steelbands seek glory

A total of 11 steelbands will compete for prizemoney and steelband glory in the 2008 steelband carnival competitions in Tobago. Six Single Pan bands, five medium conventional bands and two large bands will be seeking to make their mark in competition which will start tomorrow (Saturday) with the Single Pan bands.

According to a media release from Pan Trinbago judging for the Single Pan bands will be staged in the following locations and times. Tobago Panthers will play Kitchener's 'Bees Melody' tomorrow (Saturday) at 6.30 p.m. at the Golden Lane Primary School; Dem Boys plays Oba Sinnette's 'Picture on my Wall' at 7.15 p.m. at Embees Supermarket car park, Mason Hall; Pan Fanatics will play Tambu's 'Aint going Home' at 7.40 p.m. at the Mason Hall Government Primary School; Get Down on It will play 'No More Calypsong' by Kitchener at 8.15 p.m. at Bacolet; Hope Pan Groovers will render Crazy's 'Soucouyant' at 9 p.m. at the Hope pan tent; and Metro Stars will play Scrunter's 'The Will' from 10 p.m. at the Pembroke Community Centre.

The Conventional steel bands will engage in their clash of steel next Tuesday from 8 p.m. at the Dwight Yorke Stadium car park at 8 p.m. Thirteen-time Tobago Pan Champs East Side Symphony of Belle Garden will render Super Blue's 'Wine on Something', Steel Zplosion will play Anthony Johnson's 'Get Down', Katzenjammers renders Chucky's 'Thunder Coming, NLCB Buccaneers goes into battle with Destra's 'Hooked', Carib Dixieland plays Defosto's 'Puncenelly. These five bands will compete in the Medium Bands category.

Meanwhile, the two large bands which will compete are RBTT Redemption Sound Setters playing Defosto's Puncennelly and Scarborough's bMobile Our Boys playing Kitch's 'Mystery Band'.
